She rushes into the mist Seeking refuge from an unknown terror The impending danger engulfs her mind Escape seems futile Echoing voices laugh, taunt, mock She falls to her knees, tumbling to the ground Branches and thorns tear at her skin Tears stream down her dirt-streaked face She curls in defeat Then…a noise, a soft touch She lifts her head The mist is no more The sunrise reveals him A winged figure, clad battle-ready A sword of light in his hand He guides her to her feet A steady arm about her shoulders Her comfort, her shield, her strength Before, behind, beside Her guardian remains
